Full STEAM Ahead was our bold, exciting 3-year initiative to bring extraordinary, meaningful educational experiences to all Hopkins students, creatively tapping into some amazing resources beyond our District. Each of these experiences will expand and energize the curriculum… and none will be possible without HEF funding.
Full STEAM Ahead used community, corporate, statewide, and national partnerships to raise the bar for all of our schools, as we meet head-on the responsibility to raise global citizens.
All Kindergartens and Beyond: Learning Through the Arts
Full STEAM Ahead funded the continuation of an extremely successful partnership with Stages Theatre Company’s visiting artists. Students learned math through movement-based theatre exercises; increased literacy through storylines; found their voices through drama; and learned the joy and power of being part of an ensemble. Kindergarten teachers shared creative strategies with their colleagues to keep students focused, engaged and excited to learn.
North and West Junior Highs: Reach Beyond the Self
Soft skills – interpersonal communication, cooperation, and the importance of real-world connections – cannot be taught entirely in the classroom but are necessary all the same. Through Full STEAM Ahead, Hopkins through International Baccalaureate® (IB) designed and firmly entrenched a rigorous curriculum that scaffolds from 7th to 9th grade.
A consultant taught project planning and design, teamwork, and the empowerment that comes with global citizenship. Students may choose to focus on service, public awareness, or advocacy, culminating in 9th grade with a completed endeavor and their invaluable sense of connection to the global community.
Hopkins High School: Explore the Future
Full STEAM Ahead funded a broad expansion of BOOST TASC, a recent addition to Hopkins High School. Much like a university’s visiting lecture series, BOOST TASC brings in local speakers representing a variety of professions to engage students.
Full STEAM Ahead provided funds for a broader scope of speakers to widen our students’ horizons: luminaries in the fields of science, art, engineering, high tech, writing, etc. To learn more about HHS BOOST TASC, click here to read a recent article published in the Star Tribune.
