How to Take the ACT offers equitable access to 11th grade scholars who traditionally do not have the means to take a class like this, and helps to level the playing field with their peers. As these students are already in distance learning, access to the online class will be free; this grant pays for the tutor’s time to work with, guide and support the students. It is estimated that 65-80 scholars will participate. Encouraged to participate will be those who have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and receive free or reduced lunch; many are scholars of color and are first-generation college bound. The class includes test reviews and practice, and tips & tricks to facilitate this high-stakes test. Long term, the HHS Counseling staff hopes to make this class part of the school’s annual budget. HEF previously funded this project, and because it was successful, feels it is paramount to continue, particularly during a year with such upheaval for students.
