Collaboration and a strategic partnership are building a new curriculum around speech pathology for ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) classes. A speech pathologist from ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education) will provide individual instruction to facilitators and parents during ECFE classes, including presentations on speech and language development and disorders, Q & A sessions, and resource materials to take home or check out from Harley’s library. HEF’s grant will stock the library with multiple informative resources. In this proactive approach, ECFE facilitators and parents/caregivers will learn to encourage and facilitate speech and language development through interaction with the child, including techniques to use at home, help families to better understand language developmental milestones and more effectively detect delays, and understand the screening process if it’s deemed necessary.
