This grant provides a research-based family engagement program based on the landmark Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler Model of the Parental Involvement Process. The program is based on decades of research on increasing student achievement by increasing parental efficacy, knowledge, motivation, and confidence to partner with the school system.
The grant will purchase the research-based curriculum and implement it through Hopkins Community Education staff at both schools, focusing on non-native speakers. Family engagement requires digital literacy, communication with teachers and student support, and is a large measure of student success, but can certainly be daunting.
Hopkins Public Schools is home to 6,867 amazingly individual K-12 students; 1,495 of them are lucky enough to speak (at least one) language other than English at home and one third of Alice Smith and Gatewood families identify their home language as other than English.
