With this grant, Transition Plus (T-Plus) students are expanding their repertoire of marketable skills to include design/build hydroponic grow systems. HEF will fund the tools and materials to seed this new endeavor of the Project Based Learning Class, part of the T-Plus curriculum. T-Plus students have unique learning needs; the program is focused on acquisition of the skills required for long term employment and independent living. Hydroponic gardens serve both purposes – students will learn to grow their own healthy food as well as design and build the gardens. The fast growth of the produce keeps students engaged as it introduces them to a whole realm of employment possibilities.
