These two enriching curricula teach critical work and life related words and skills – including functional math and pre-vocational skills – using interactive white boards, real-world situations, pictures and hands-on manipulatives.
Engaged students with special needs proceed at their own individual pace until skills are fully learned, and then move on to more difficult concepts. In addition to offering terrific training to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), both programs can be used at a faster pace with high functioning 9th graders as an introduction to vocational skills and career planning.
Let’s Talk! and Job Talk! assess and keep track of students’ specific IEP objectives, and provide the transitional services important to students with special needs. This program will also eliminate the need to contract outside services for many students, and so enhances and furthers the successful work being accomplished with the Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES) program previously funded by the Foundation.
Hopkins Schools are once again taking the lead in finding the best solution for ALL of our learners, and will be only the second district in Minnesota to use these exciting progressive programs to provide our students with the skills they need.
