Link Crew Grant – $15,425

Link Crew is a new orientation and transition program for Hopkins High School (HHS) that will help welcome approximately 500 freshmen and make them more comfortable coming into their high school experience. This Link Crew Grant will enable 100 juniors and seniors to be trained to serve as Link Leaders. This role of mentor, teacher and support system for the incoming freshman class will foster relationship building, culture positivity and community.

As HHS transitions to a 9th-12th grade building in 2023-2024, it is necessary to have a structured transition program in place to support our newest students. The Link Crew Grant will help HHS honor and celebrate the connection to high school; creating a space where freshmen feel like they belong from the moment they walk in the door.

HHS Guidance Counselor Correne Larsen has coordinated transition programs in other high schools as well as worked in and believes in the quality of the Link program. “We believe the overall culture at HHS will shift with the implementation of this program,” Larsen shared in her grant application.

Link Crew has the ability to provide long-term contributions to a positive community climate at HHS. Students will acquire: stronger peer connections, both within and across grade levels; decision making, conflict resolution and communication skill development; increased leadership skills among Link Leaders; greater opportunity to connect with their school community.

Ideally HHS staff will be trained in the spring 2023 with Link Leaders selected by May 2023 and trained in August 2023. There will be a Link Orientation Day for all freshmen in August prior to the start of the school year with monthly Link academic & social follow ups throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
