This grant provides tools and games to support and strengthen Spanish literacy skills and oral language development for Juntos Spanish Immersion scholars.
As the Juntos Spanish Immersion program builds, a grade level is added each year; 44 first graders are immersed at Eisenhower’s Juntos this year. These resources will add to their classroom toolkits to enhance foundational reading skills and will be used for years to come during small group ‘literacy centers’: silent reading center, listening center, phonemic awareness, writing center, and a word works center. The tools, such as flip books, syllable and word games, word magnets will support tactile learners as they help teach syllable-based internal structure of Spanish (different than that that of English).
Juntos means together; the Alice Smith Spanish Immersion program has begun with Kindergarten this year and will share resources and methods.
