Women’s Shelter Drive

This is a grant from The Awesome Fund, dedicated solely to student clubs and organizations, and funded by a generous Hopkins alumnus, a matching donation from his employer, and the family & friends of Ethan Lang.

The Girls United Club is teaming up with HHS for Choice and inviting any HHS student to join them in a project to benefit the local community. Empowered to do something about homelessness, these students will use the $350 Awesome Fund grant to purchase enough fabric to create/tie 15 fleece blankets, as well as enough thrift store fabric to sew together at least 2 additional blankets. A representative from a local women’s shelter will speak to the group about the issues that homeless women face. Students plan a letter-writing campaign as well to send supportive notes to shelter residents. Homelessness is a relevant, important issue; these student organizers hope to draw like-minded students from outside of their club membership. Some will perhaps even learn a new skill – sewing by machine or by hand.
